Polystyrene, or Styrofoam, banned from beaches and parks

Starting July 1, the adopted ordinance bans the sale or use of all polystyrene, or Styrofoam, products from Miami-Dade parks and beaches. This includes food service items such as: coolers, plates, bowls, cups, lids, to-go containers, cutlery, tableware, boxes, bags, wrappings and others.

Polystyrene, a petroleum-based plastic, is considered our nation’s fifth largest creator of hazardous waste and can create major issues to our land and water.
