New benefits for STS customers start April 1

Special Transportation Service (STS) program is a shared-ride public transportation service provided by the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 paratransit service provisions.

STS provides door-to-door service from the main entrance of pick-up to the main entrance of drop-off locations throughout most of Miami-Dade County. STS vehicles are equipped with steps and lifts to provide service.

The service operates 24-hours a day, 7 days a week and can be used to provide transportation for work, school, shopping, recreation, medical appointments, and other reasons. The cost per trip is $3.50.

Starting April 1, several STS program enhancements are being implemented to improve service and reliability. The improvements include:

  • Extended service hours for trip reservations: 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.; call 305-871-1111 / TTY Users: 800-955-8771 or 711
  • Stand-by vehicles added to minimize service delays during peak times
  • Personnel added to monitor service and minimize delays
  • Negotiated pickup times. The ADA allows scheduling flexibility up to one hour before or after the requested time to improve operational efficiencies.

Read the service enhancement fact sheet, available in English/Spanish and English/Creole.
