What’s Next for I Am Athlete Miami? | I AM ATHLETE with Brandon Marshall and Omar Kelly

I AM ATHLETE Miami | Season 3: Episode 10

Writer, Journalist and Columnist Omar Kelly chop it up with Brandon Marshall in this special episode of I Am Athlete to discuss the challenges of navigating family, relationships and business post NFL. Brandon dives into what inspires him and reveals his why and purpose while elaborating on the future of House of Athlete and the I Am Athlete Podcast.

Starting out Omar and Brandon discuss the challenges of navigating work/life balance. Brandon shares how he and his wife Michi Marshall work together to manage family while they both succeed on the business front.

With Brandon becoming a huge advocate for the mental health community, Omar asks him if the result of him going public with his diagnoses of borderline personality disorder produced the outcome he had expected. Brandon goes on to explain that by going public with his diagnoses in 2009, it allowed him to discover his purpose in life. Brandon shares that people lives have been saved solely on his decisions to go public with his struggles and since that day he has vowed to make it his life’s purpose to remove the stigma of mental health and take mental health from a taboo conversation to an everyday conversation.

After a success NFL Career Brandon shares how he navigated his way into the broadcasting arena and what tools he took from that experience into his personal business ventures.
He takes us back to when he played for the Chicago Bears and shares a story of him attempting to negotiate his own NFL contract in order to gain knowledge and experience on the business end within the NFL. This experience would lead to him wanting to learn more and would ultimately play a huge role in Brandon’s post NFL career in business.

Omar turns the table to business after asking Brandon what his vision was for House of Athlete, and the I Am Athlete Podcast. Brandon shares that he had always wanted to run his own nonprofit to benefit the mental health community and he planned to use House of Athlete and I am Athlete’s to do so. Brandon shares the story of how the pandemic in 2020 helped birth the I Am Athlete Podcast with Channing Crowder, Fred Taylor and Reggie Wayne and then later with Chad Johnson. After launching Season 3 of IAA, Omar asks the burning question of where the future of I am Athlete is headed. Brandon responds that the IAA Miami is a cultural phenomenon, and it cannot be duplicated and moving forward he will improve on listening and catering to his audience when it comes to content.

  1. I love Brandon’s vision and drive to grow this brand into something special. Everyone won’t be happy, things won’t always be perfect but as long as the guys remain friends outside of the business that’s all that matters. I’ll continue to support IAA HOA and Pivot.

  2. Things haven’t been the same since Chef Nancie left. Brandon you went mainstream when the boys was just trying to be authentic. You didn’t need that NASCAR audience. I will be tuning into The Pivot with Fred and Channing and hopefully Ocho post maternity leave.

  3. I understand the direction in which Brandon wants to take the show. Maybe it's too much all at once and that's why there is so much confusion going on from a fans pov. He most definitely needs to keep Fred, Channing and Ochocinco. Bring Chef Nancy back. Make sure that he brings athletes on the show that can highlight their successful businesses after their careers have ended and are giving back to the community. Make sure to have athletes that can have a conversation and are looking to elevate ppl mentally/financially/spiritually. IAA LA only had the two guys who were football players and the host who made thought provoking statements. No disrespect to the basketball players who were on there but I didn't feel like they were mentally ready for the type of conversations that were needed. They were hit and miss. Just keep the content coming and ppl will continue to watch during the growing pains.

  4. Brandon doing too much …I am athlete football GRREAT. I am athlete basketball GOOD. I am woman WONDERFUL (should be longer) going to different cities FANTASTIC. Nascar TRASH. the original crew not keeping it going and being consistent TRASH. If they don't come back ima just UNsubscribe 🤷🏾‍♀️

  5. Go to the most popular videos of I AM ATHLETE, they were on fire pulling in millions of views with ocho, channing and freaky Fred. We want authenticity, not nascar or random people every week.

  6. Jeez you guys haven't been on long enough to have these changes. Chad, Fred, Channing, Brandon….that is what we want. All the other I am Athlete are just trash (except the ladies I am woman). Sometimes change is not a good thing.

  7. Never posted a comment in my life on youtube but here i am as a 29 year old brother that's never watched an NFL game and watch football which is a different sport in my language but this show was my favorite it's sad to see where its going where my boys at brandon and chef nancie smh

  8. I’m happy to say, I was one of them first like 5,000 subscribers🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼. Love the podcast. Would help me start my day. One day ima be on here 🙏🏼🙏🏼🔥

  9. BIG MISTAKE!!! The show's niche was the different personalities of the Big 4 group, B-Marsh, Fred, Ocho, and Channing, then you add the content you black man attacked made a lot of us tune in. You 4, not 1 killed the negative perception & stereotypes of athletes, especially Black Athletes. Intelligence, mental health, race discussion, humor, love, showing tears, content, fashion, finance, food, and athletic stars equaled a "GREAT Podacst; I am Athlete!!"

  10. Plssss get rid of the nascar theme bro im tired of the nascar go back to havin the athlete’s or rappers or whatever and talk like normal no more nascar not watching another nascar theme video

  11. Yea idk what this is but don’t use the whole group in the thumbnail if it ain’t the whole group. You had a great formula why you abandoned it? IDK but bring that back it was funny yet deep. Idc about sports but I watched because I found y’all entertaining. 🤷🏿‍♀️ I hope your team is reading these messages and taking these things into consideration.

  12. Don’t forget your core audience trying to expand the range of the show. The core four are especially important for black men. Change the topics(any topics!), inject new personalities, sign your deals with whomever but don’t move too far away from the core four. You guys humanize athletes and more important black men to the masses just being you! Let the other demographics come “across the street” to see what’s going on, don’t chase them. They will.( Think rap music) For the topics that you guys can’t tackle your wives will using the same formula. The show is important. Please stay the course.

  13. bro bring athletes on and have athlete discussions. nobody cares about nascar. the parental episodes are cool ig. idk though because i haven’t watched them and i don’t have kids. plus get freaky fred abs channing back.

  14. I’m here for B. Marsh creating all types of “I Am…” shows…I would just love for the original crew to stay together even if it’s just once a month. I’m not in a position to give any of them any advice but I would say feed the idea/product/brand that made all this possible. I love all the lanes it has opened, it truly is amazing to see but we LOVE the original crew. No pressure lol

  15. You are letting the money get to this show. I loved it when it first came out because it was real, organic with familiar faces speaking about things we don’t see black men, black athletes at that talking about. You have completely flipped the script from the original concept of this show and that’s why you’re losing views. Its more about focusing on football again, the realness is gone. Now it looks like every other sports shows on ESPN. With all the changes and that new YT money yall got we lost the magic of the show 🤷🏾‍♀️.

  16. I feel that people seem to oversee is that they probably have a partnership with Nascar and with that it sheds more light on that sport but judging by the views people just don't see entertainment in people driving in a circle and talking about untold stories. The og squad is a perfect mesh that shouldn't be dismantled. (Brandon, Channing, Fred, Chad, and Chef Nancie) but Chef has been looking busy which I get it the podcast expanded her business which is amazing. I wouldn't be mad to see more chefs showcase their talents to do the same thing. The moral of the story is that views don't lie.
