WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Carlos A. Gimenez (FL-26) issued the following statement after voting against H.R. 3684, appropriately dubbed the Majority\’s \”My Way or the Highway\” bill. The legislation, which cut Republicans out of the process entirely, seeks to revamp House Democrats’ progressive agenda with 1 out of every 2 dollars going toward their Green New Deal mandates while failing to provide a way to pay for it.
“I lament the fact that Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats have totally thrown away any semblance of bipartisanship on surface transportation. We had an incredible opportunity here in the House to come together in a bipartisan manner to pass crucial programs for South Florida communities, including the funding for the Card Sound Bridge project, which I fought hard to have included. I will continue to be a strong advocate for the Card Sound Bridge project, working to ensure Miami-Dade County and Monroe County get the vital funding needed to complete this instrumental project. It is unfortunate that this legislation is loaded up with poison pills, including vast new, cost-prohibitive Green New Deal-style mandates. I hope the Senate removes these poison pills from the legislation and passes a clean bill for the benefit of South Florida communities. That is something I’m ready and willing to support.”
