Gimenez to Vote “NO” on Continuing Resolution

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Carlos A. Gimenez (FL-26) announces he will be voting against Speaker Pelosi’s continuing resolution that would suspend the debt ceiling.

“Speaker Pelosi had the opportunity to work in a bipartisan way to keep the government open by working with Republicans to advance a clean continuing resolution. Most Republicans on Capitol Hill, myself included, would have voted for it. Instead – as has been the case far too often this Congress – Speaker Pelosi folded to the most radical fringes of her party and is using this continuing resolution to suspend our debt ceiling and justify unprecedented government spending at the expense of our children and grandchildren. I will not partake in giving Speaker Pelosi and President Biden a limitless credit card free of any financial restraints for them to bankroll their political agenda.

Speaker Pelosi was also convinced by the progressive left to strip historically popular funding for certain initiatives, including economic assistance to Israel for the defense of its national sovereignty. The Iron Dome is a purely defensive system in place to protect the lives of civilians – innocent men, women, and children – from violence and barbaric attacks by terrorists. I stand with the people of Israel and support Israel’s right to self-defense and self-determination. I will not support a continuing resolution that undermines our support of Israel.

If the government shuts down due to the Senate rejecting this horrendous resolution, Speaker Pelosi and the progressive, radical Left are the ones to blame. We have more than enough votes to pass a clean continuing resolution, but the political will for governing is just not there for the Democrats.”
